Our Guide to Intimate Weddings

Intimate weddings have grown in popularity since 2020 and it’s a wedding trend we truly love. There’s something romantic and modern about celebrating with a paired-down guest list of beloved friends and family. Whether you want a more private event, or you are trying to save on cost, an intimate wedding could be the right decision for you.

So what exactly does “intimate wedding” mean? According to Brides.com, an intimate wedding consists of 10-20 guests, but we’d consider a wedding with under 50 guests as an intimate affair. In contrast to an elopement, which is sometimes done without guests or even done in secret, an intimate wedding can still be a formal event full of love and tradition.

Some of the benefits of an intimate wedding are lower costs due to a smaller guest list, additional time to spend with each guest and more unique venue options. Here are some of our tips for planning an intimate Fort Collins wedding.

  • Pair Down the Guest List - Sticking to a guest list of 50 or less will force you to be really intentional about who gets an invite. As hard as it sounds, this will allow you to prioritize what really matters to you on your special day. This might mean only inviting immediate family and a few close friends but it also means you’ll get to spend quality time with the people you love the most.

  • Find the Right Venue - Finding an intimate venue that can feel cozy and comfortable is key to creating a warm, welcoming space for your guests. Traditional wedding venues with too much open space can feel empty or bare without a plethora of guests filling its space.

  • Plan An Amazing Meal - We love the idea of a delicious catered meal, like one from our friends at Main Street Catering, for your wedding guests to enjoy. By cutting the guest list you’ll have some wiggle room with your catering budget. A fabulous dinner with friends, delicious drinks and amazing conversation you can actually hear sounds like the perfect way to celebrate on your wedding day.

  • Focus On The Small Details - Just because there are fewer people attending doesn’t mean you can’t go all out on the details. Customized stationary, personalized thank you gifts and specialized craft-cocktails representing the couple all come to mind as details your guest will remember. Strauss Cabin Farmhouse offers some beautiful pieces in our Something Borrowed inventory to make your vision really come to life.
